Irene Woods
Irene Woods
Irene Woods works from her studios at the foot of
the Cooley Mountains. She paints in oils mostly using
palette knife, capturing the changing colours of
the seasons, the movement of light, the soul of the
people who inhabit the surrounding landscape. The
marks of the knife and paint convey the texture of
the subject, the ruggedness of rock and stones, the
ripples in water. Colour plays and important role in her
paintings, dictating the mood of a composition – be
it dark stormy skies or sunlit landscape. Irene works to
commission and exhibition and her work is included in
many private and public collections.
Directions
From Dundalk: Take the bypass to Ballymascanlon
roundabout, turning for Carlingford. Turn left just
before Martins of Riverstown Pub (approx 6 miles),
Cooley Distillery is on this road. Drive straight through
the Y junction, we are the third entrance on the right
(after red painted wall). Drive up avenue.
Places of interest nearby
Castletown Cooley is a very popular area for walking
as the scenery is beautiful and the side roads are
quiet. It is also a starting point for mountain walkers,
there are trails across Slieve Foy into Carlingford. The
local pub Martins of Riverstown also serves food.
