Colette Mulholland
Colette Mulholland
Colette is a textile artist from Drogheda. She works
from her studio in Barlow House and uses various
felting and sewing techniques to create a range of
soft furnishings, bags, scarves and wall pieces. Feltmaking
is a very ancient craft and Colette particularly
enjoys nuno-felting, a Japanese technique which
involves fusing woollen fibres and fabrics together.
“The results are unpredictable and always surprising
as the fibres manipulate the fabric and create a three
dimensional effect”. Colette loves experimenting
with unusual fibres such as silk and bamboo to create
unique effects.
Inspiration comes from her local environment, both
natural and man-made - from contrasting textures
of foliage in her garden to the towns ancient stone
buildings. She also very much admires the work of
Dutch felting artist Claudy Jongstra.
