My work has evolved from fashion and textiles to include illustration, painting, print and mixed media. The natural world inspires me. Time and again I find the sky, the sea and the shapes and forms of flowers and trees appearing in my work. The colours change from season to season and according to the light. Collaborating with other artists and working with community groups over the past 10 years has enriched my work and taught me new techniques and processes. Themes emerge through sketches, photography and found objects which act as an aide memoire when I start to work on a new piece.
I graduated with a B.Des. (Hons) from the National College of Art and Design in 2003, specialising in fashion and textile design. I attended the Acadamia Koefia Di Alta Moda E Costume in Rome during my third year of this degree. Before this, I studied Languages and Business Studies in DIT (now TUD).
My women’s lingerie collection won the international Mittelmoda prize in 2004 and I was hired by Alberto Masotti as consultant designer to La Perla following the award show in Grado, Italy. I have worked with very high profile international designers in New York and Paris, Rome and Bologna.
Since moving to Castlebellingham, Co Louth in 2008, I combine my busy family life with working in my studio and teaching. I teach fashion design and sewing, drawing and mixed media classes at Creative Spark, Dundalk, as well as collaborating with other artists to teach across communities in Co. Louth.
