Claire McAteer is an artist/maker/designer with a specialism in textiles. Claire has held the position of part-time lecturer in Textile Art & Artefact at NCAD since 2000 and is currently taking some time off teaching. This has allowed for new development of her studio practice. This encompasses; drawing, mixed media, print, embroidery and felt, and form the basis of her art and textile wall hangings. Inspired by her immediate natural environment, Celtic heritage and narrative of emotions, belonging and boundaries – Claire is a collector – be it of stories, photography or materials, all of which inspire and inform. She often uses old fabric to explore the affinity between discarded and sustainability, incorporating new identity onto the deprecated.
