Helen Tully graduated in 1992 from the Limerick school of Art & Design where she studied Visual Communications/Graphic Design. She then went on to study History of Art which led her full circle into working more in fine art/mixed media. She has a passion for all forms of art and crafts and is very heavily influenced by her surroundings from our ancient built heritage to the nature and wildlife of our amazing island. She was born in the shadows of the ancient monuments of the Boyne Valley, Newgrange, Knowth & Dowth. The inspiration here is endless from the ancient rock art to the myth & legend. She is constantly striving to learn new techniques and new disciplines, it really is a never ending process. Helen created juniperlily mixed media art in 2012.
She works in fine art, print and she has also developed a range of quirky typographic greeting cards.
Helen has been exhibiting her work since 2001, having had a number of solo exhibitions in the Bru na Boinne Visitor Centre over the years. She has also exhibited and demonstrated at Art in Action in Townley Hall on numerous occasions.
Helens travels also influence her work, from the wilds of the Orkney Islands to the bright lights of New York and Hong kong. But she is never happier or more inspired than on a morning ramble with her beloved golden retriever Lily and golden doodle Pip. She is in the process of writing and illustrating a children’s book featuring these two golden beauties and their adventures, of which there are many.
The great thing about being an artist is you are never bored, there is always something to be inspired by, it takes you on a journey, in fact in the words of the great Henri Matisse ….”an artist is an explorer.”
